The first season premiered on June 8, 2010, and consists of 20 episodes. The story begins with the introduction of Aria, Spencer, Hanna, and Emily, who are struggling to cope with the loss of their friend Alison. As they try to move on with their lives, they begin receiving mysterious and threatening messages from an anonymous figure known as "A." The messages are filled with secrets and lies, and the girls soon realize that they are being stalked and manipulated by someone who seems to know all their secrets.

The second season premiered on July 5, 2011, and consists of 25 episodes. The girls are still being stalked by "A," and they begin to uncover more secrets about Alison's disappearance. They also meet new characters, including Caleb Rivers (Tyler Blackburn) and Melissa Hastings (Torrey DeVitto).
